Homemade, Low-Waste Dog Food Recipes & Instructions from Scratch

After a bad experience with PetPlate — a “frozen-fresh” dog food company — that involved some odd-colored quinoa and A LOT of diarrhea, I decided to switch to another frozen-fresh dog food company called Just Food For Dogs. Although my dog really enjoyed the JFFD recipe, we were feeding her according to their measurements that they suggest based on her weight and their calories. Little did we know, we were feeing her almost 3x the daily amount of calories she should be eating! Within a couple of months she ballooned and the vet said she needed to lose weight asap.

Aside from those issues, a couple of other things that bothered me about feeding her these foods were that I would never know exactly what was in them, I didn't know if the facilities they were made in were safe or healthy, and it was creating a lot of plastic waste. I wanted peace-of-mind and to help reduce my waste, so I set out to make my own dog food. I did a bunch of math and calculations to make sure she was getting all of her necessary vitamins and the right amount of calories to help her lose weight and maintain a healthy weight. Not to brag, but since coming up with and feeding her these recipes, she has never been more excited for meal time! So, I decided to share my recipes with you so your doggo can enjoy meal time and you can have some peace of mind as well.
